Chela on My Mind
With the blessing of Frida Kahlo’s grandniece Mara de Anda Romero, Bohemia beer is launching a call to artists 21 and up to submit original works inspired by the life and times of the famed painter.
“Bohemia beer is proud of its Mexican origins and exemplifies quality, elegance and complexity; much like Frida Kahlo’s works. We weren’t surprised to discover through our journey with the Kahlo family that Frida herself was a fan of Bohemia,” VP of marketing for the beer brand Felix Palau, said.
Dubbed The Kahlo Challenge, works must include not only a nod to the iconic surrealist, but Bohemia itself.
“We are excited to see how our consumers interpret Kahlo’s distinctive artistic style and Bohemia imagery in their pieces,” Palau continued.
Judges will award the top three paintings a $10,000, $5,000 and $2,000 cash prize, respectively. Full details and contact information available on Bohemia’s Facebook page.
It’s not the first time the brand is related with Frida and her imagery. In 2010 they raised [uni]brows amongst Mexico’s culturati by featuring the painter’s image on their bottle, a move that was highly criticized by the brass at the Museo Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo.
